Tess Gallagher is a poet, short story writer, and essayist. Ms. Gallagher's most recent American book is Soul Barnacles, Ten More Years With Ray (Italian version: Io and Carver ): essays, Winter 2000, University of Michigan Press. Her essay, The Pure Place, was published in Sleeping With One Eye Open from University of Georgia Press, 2000.
In September of 2001 Ms. Gallagher was in Prague to welcome a book of combined poetry from her late husband, Raymond Carver, and herself. She visited Japan in Fall 2000 where she gave a program at the Nogoya American Center and had reunions with Haruki Murakami, distinguished novelist and translator of Raymond Carver.
In 1999 Ms. Gallagher received the prestigious Nancy Blankenship Pryor Award for unique contributions to the literary culture of Washington State. The award, presented by the Governor's Office and the Washington State Library, also honored her teaching and mentoring. In 1998 she was Writer in Residence at The Stadler Poetry Center at Bucknell University.

Alfredo Arreguin was born in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico in January of 1935. He lived there for thirteen years. He then moved to Mexico City, where he lived until he was 23 years old. Since 1959 he has lived in Seattle, where he received his B.A. and M.F.A degrees from the University of Washington. His painting, Sueno: Eve Before Adam, hangs in the Smithsonian, and was deemed one of its most important works in the year it was acquired.
Arreguin's meanings are as complex as the carefully constructed layers of his paintings. Simultaneously rendering the painting's main subject and a myriad of semi-transparent, interlocked and intuitively connected design motifs, he relates personal history, Mexican history, ecological concerns, the immigrant experience, and reflections on the northwest. In addition to hanging in the Smithsonian and corporate headquarters around the United States Arreguin's work has graced the covers of books by his friends, Northwest writers, Tess Gallagher and the late Raymond Carver, among others. A comprehensive book on Arreguin's work was published by the University of Washington Press in 2002. The painting at the top of this web page is
